Study Hub opens for Murraylands students

August 6, 2019

The Hon Dan Tehan MP

Minister for Education

Students in the Murray River region will be able to study while still living and working in their community by using a new Regional Study Hub that opens today.

The Morrison Government has provided more than $600,000 through the Regional Study Hubs Program and a further $270,400 through the Building Better Regions Fund for the TAFE SA site on Beatty Terrace to develop the Murray River Regional Study Hub.

The hub will offer computing facilities, study spaces, and academic support for local students studying by distance at any Australian university. Thirty-five students have already registered with the hub.

Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the Morrison Government was investing in regional and remote education.

“The Morrison Government has committed $39 million to establish Regional Study Hubs at 23 locations across regional Australia – including in Murray Bridge – so that regional students can access tertiary study without leaving their local communities,” Mr Tehan said.

“Our Government’s investment will give regional and remote students greater choice and access to opportunities through more Commonwealth-supported places at regional campuses, more scholarships and more Regional Study Hubs.”

Member for Barker Tony Pasin, who officially opened the hub today said the facility would enable students to study the courses they want without having to travel long distances from home.

“The cost of moving to study can be a significant burden on students and families and a barrier to going to university,” Mr Pasin said.

“All Australians should have access to quality education opportunities regardless of where they live, and the opening of this hub will deliver real benefits to students in Murray Bridge and across South Australia’s south-eastern region, enabling our students to study locally.”
