PASIN ANNOUNCES STUDY HUB CAMPUS FOR BERRI

September 13, 2019

Member for Barker Tony Pasin says people living and working in the Riverland can now take their careers to the next level by signing up to study university courses in their own backyard.

The Murray River Study Hub (MRSH), which is currently available to Riverlanders online, will launch its own local campus in January 2020.

Set to be centrally located at the Berri TAFE campus, the Riverland hub will give residents access to personal support in a modern environment. This announcement follows the launch of the Murraylands campus and website earlier this month.

“Our Government understands the importance of every child having access to a quality education. Young people in regional Australia are half as likely to have completed a university degree as their city counterparts,” Mr Pasin said.

“This is why we are providing $24.2 million over four years to help establish or expand 16 Regional Study Hubs covering 22 locations throughout Australia, including the Riverland. This is part of our additional $134.8 million commitment to regional and rural higher education, bringing the total additional new funding to $400 million over five years.”

“By providing more higher education and training opportunities locally we can retain skills and experience that will boost our local economy and keep our community vibrant,” Said Mr Pasin.

Further, Renmark Paringa Chief Executive Officer Tony Siviour has taken up a position on the MRSH Executive Steering Committee, representing the interests of the Riverland’s G3 Alliance. He will join existing committee members – TAFE SA Chief Executive David Coltman, RDAMR Acting Chief Executive Leonie Boothby and Rural City of Murray Bridge Chief Executive Officer Michael Sedgman.

Two more positions are available on the MRSH Executive Steering Committee, with Expressions of Interest (EOI) now open to skills-based leaders from the Riverland and Murraylands, who are committed to helping grow regional access to tertiary education.

Riverland residents don’t need to wait until the campus opens to start pursuing their study goals. They can already apply to study online university courses through the MRSH website, knowing they will have the support of their own local campus in January 2020.
